The secrets of the mountain pasture

Immerse yourself in the life of the Piller family and discover all the traditions of alpine cheese in a warm atmosphere!

The tour starts at 9:30 a.m. every day at the summit and offers an authentic experience at the Chalet de Vounetz.

Immerse yourself in the Piller family, who will be delighted to show you their daily routine and answer any questions you may have about this flagship product of our beautiful region.

Welcoming and passionate, they will pass on all their knowledge of the traditions of alpine cheese-making in a friendly atmosphere.

Meet at 9:30 am at the summit to discover life on the mountain pasture in the Vounetz chalet.

  • The tour lasts approximately 1h30
  • This activity is only offered in French
  • A tasting takes place at the end
  • Possibility of buying their products on site
  • Reservations can be made by telephone, at reception or online below, no later than 4:30 pm the day before the tour
  • Max. 10 people on weekdays outside school vacations and max. 20 people on weekends and during school vacations
  • Pick up your ticket and vouchers for the tour at the lift station reception desk on the day of your visit

There are 4 varieties of Gruyère AOP

  • Gruyère AOP Classique: Rather young, aged between 6 and 9 months, Le Gruyère AOP stands out for its tender, fine taste
  • Gruyère AOP Réserve: Le Gruyère AOP Réserve owes its intense aroma to its maturing period of over 10 months. Its taste is full-bodied and fruity
  • Gruyère AOP Bio: The "Bio" designation is given only to cheeses from farms that produce milk meeting the requirements of the "Bio Suisse" label
  • Gruyère AOP Alpage: Le Gruyère d'Alpage AOP is produced from mid-May to mid-October on mountain pastures. It owes its fine, typical taste to the wide variety of pastures and alpine flora

PRODUCTION VACHERIN FRIBOURGEOIS aop

  • Around 3'000 tonnes of Vacherin Fribourgeois AOP are produced every year
  • More than 200 producers contribute to the production of Vacherin Fribourgeois AOP in the Fribourg region
  • Vacherin Fribourgeois AOP is made from raw milk from cows raised in the Fribourg region. It is matured for at least 12 weeks in specially equipped cellars
